School’s out for summer! Today’s Throwback Thursday photo features the students of Saline County’s District 51 have a taffy pull on the last day of school in May 1914. Taffy and candy pulls were a popular social activity during the 19th Century. Taffy was usually made with boiled molasses or sugar. The mixture was pulled again and again with buttered hands until it was the right consistency. The students and teachers in this photograph appear to be having lots of sticky fun.
