All Original, All Nebraska at Neligh Mill

All Original, All Nebraska at Neligh Mill

Celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Neligh Mill!

Join us on June 29th for a special celebration as the Neligh Mill turns 150! The Neligh Mill is a surviving reminder of the grist mills that once dotted Nebraska’s landscape.

The event begins at 6:30 pm as renowned storyteller and musician Dan Holtz presents his program “All Original, All Nebraska”. Because of the Overland Trails, Chimney Rock has long been a symbol of Nebraska history. While that’s appropriate, Nebraska has many other important stories to regional and national history. In this program, Dan Holtz, accompanying himself on guitar and harmonica, sings original songs that tell stories of important people, places, and events in Nebraska’s compelling and fascinating history. His songs tell stories about out-of-the-ordinary homesteaders, heroic Native Americans, World War II heroes, Nebraska’s natural and scenic wonders, and more.

About Dan Holtz
Dan Holtz has presented his musical, historical, story-telling programs hundreds of times all across Nebraska, including performances at the State Capitol, the Governor’s Mansion, the Bob Devaney Sports Center, Homestead National Monument, the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument, Chimney Rock, the Joslyn Art Museum, and Ft. Robinson. He also performed on the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., for Nebraska State Day in 1999, and, along with the band Flatwater Highway, released in 2016 a second CD of his music titled All Original, All Nebraska.

Dr. Holtz is also an emeritus professor of English from Peru State College, Peru, NE, where he taught from 1987 to 2016, and a past president of the HIstory Nebraska Board of Trustees. In addition, he is a recipient of the Nebraska State College System Teaching Excellence Award and the Addison E. Sheldon Memorial Award for the preservation and interpretation of Nebraska history.

In 2004, he was a bonus-round winner on the Wheel of Fortune television game show. He lives in Nebraska City with his wife, Alice.

About History Nebraska
History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
