BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Dr. Susanne George Bloomfield received her BA and MA from the University of Nebraska Kearney and her PhD from the University of Nebraska Lincoln in 1988.  She is currently (as of 2012) Professor of English at the University of Nebraska Kearney.  Dr. Bloomfield is the author of three biographies published by the University of Nebraska Press: The Adventures of The Woman Homesteader: The Life and Letters of Elinore Pruitt Stewart (1992), Kate M. Cleary: A Literary Life with Selected Works (1997), and Impertinences: Selected Writings of Elia W. Peattie, a Journalist in the Gilded Age (2005). In the fall of 2007, the University of Nebraska Press published Adventures in the West: Stories for Young Readers, co-edited with UNK English graduate student, Eric Melvin Reed.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The collection consists of one box of primary research materials compiled by Dr. Susanne Bloomfield for her book, Kate M. Cleary: A Literary Biography with Selected Works.  The collection contains mostly photocopies of letters and other writings by Kate Cleary, as well as various articles used for background research.  Note:  See the NSHS Library for copies of Kate M. Cleary as well as other publications by Susanne George Bloomfield.

About NSHS

The Nebraska State Historical Society was founded in 1878 by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed NSHS from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Director Daryl Bohac. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for NSHS.
