BACKGROUND NOTE
John G. Tinney, son of John and Bridget Tinney, was born in Pennsylvania on July 25, 1858. By 1880 he was living in La Fayette, Wisconsin. The 1890-1891 Gazetteer shows that he was a resident of Pilger, Stanton County, Nebraska. In 1892 he was listed as a member of the Board of County Commissioners. As an implement dealer, Tinney sold hardware goods and John Deere farm equipment. He also bought hogs and cattle. The 1900 census shows that Tinney was unmarried.
