BACKGROUND NOTE
Born at Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, on August 30, 1832, John Lind Carson was the son of James and Rosanna (White) Carson. Carson came to Brownville, Nebraska, in 1857 where he engaged in banking. He organized the First National Bank of Brownville and served as president. He also founded and served as president of the Carson National Bank of Auburn and later served as president of the First National Bank of Lincoln. During the Civil War, Carson served as captain in the commissary department. He was stationed at Cairo, Illinois. Carson also briefly served as a regent of the University of Nebraska from 1880-1881. Carson married Mary Ruley in 1863. The couple had four children, James, Mary, John, and Rosanna. John Lind Carson died in Lincoln, Nebraska, on December 30, 1897.
