BACKGROUND NOTE
The Heritage League originated in 1966 when several members wished to retire from their Junior Woman’s Club and affiliated independently with the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and Nebraska Federation of Women’s Clubs, District I. LaVerne Cook was the first president of the Heritage League. Other charter members were Bess Ash, Cec Cather, Olive Copple, Gloria DeVoe, Kay Keister, Ginny Rohrbaugh, Dee Schmadeke, Ellen Smiley, Ruth Van Boskirk, and Joan Wentz. After years of various kinds of fundraising, Cec Cather proposed sponsorship of a Holiday of Trees event for community participation and benefit. The Holiday of Trees has become the Heritage League’s signature fundraising event each year.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The bulk of the collection consists of thirty-three (33) scrapbooks dating from 1971-2011. The scrapbooks document the yearly activities of the Heritage League and include event programs, membership information, clippings and other publicity, photographs of members and events, etc. Also included are three boxes containing Heritage League yearbooks, GFWC guidebooks, minutes of meetings, financial information, and various newspaper clippings, programs, photographs, certificates and citations, etc.
