BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Alois Slepicka, son of Frank and Barbora Svach Slepicka, was born on a farm in Saline County near Wilber on February 13, 1875. He married Antonia Melichar on May 15, 1895. They made their home in Wilber. Alois Slepicka was in the insurance business for fifty years, served as Clerk of Saline County, Mayor of Wilber, and two terms in the Nebraska Legislature. He also served on the Saline County Selective Service Board for fifteen years. Alois Slepicka died on December 29, 1964 and was buried in the Wilber Czech Cemetery at Wilber, Nebraska.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The collection consists of one folder containing correspondence, clippings and ephemera relating to the life and political career of Alois Slepicka. The materials date from ca. 1904-1964 and include a copy of Alois Slepicka’s obituary.

About NSHS

The Nebraska State Historical Society was founded in 1878 by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed NSHS from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director Cindy Drake. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for NSHS.
