BACKGROUND NOTE
The Blaine County Larger Parish was formed by the Congregational Churches in Brewster, Dunning, and Pardum. None of the three congregations, all organized in the early 1900s, were able to support a minister adequately by themselves. At a meeting in 1927 representatives from each church agreed to call a minister jointly, to share his services, and to contribute to his support. A preaching point was also established at West Union. A constitution was approved and the name of Blaine County Larger Parish was adopted in 1931. At the same time, Dry Valley was added as a preaching point.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
These records of the Blaine County Larger Parish, Blaine County, Nebraska, consist of two volumes on one reel of microfilm and are arranged in two series: (1) Records of the G.H. Brewster Memorial Congregational Church (Brewster, Nebraska), 1899-1953; and (2) Records of the Dunning Congregational Church (Dunning, Nebraska), 1900-1956.
This collection contains records of two of the three churches in the Blaine County Larger Parish. There is one register for the congregation in Brewster from its founding on March 11, 1899, including minutes, lists of pastors, deacons, officers, and members, marriages, and baptisms. One volume for the Dunning church contains similar information from its founding on October 30, 1899.
