BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Boyd Perkin, son of Joseph and Nellie (Lulterbine) Perkin, was born in Frontier County, Nebraska in June of 1893. After the death of his father in 1932, Boyd, along with two of his sisters, continued to run the mercantile business begun by Joseph in the early 1900s. They sold the business in 1958. Boyd’s interest in writing and Frontier County history resulted in his providing the poems for Early History of Frontier County, Nebraska by W. H. Miles and John Bratt. (A copy of this is in the Library under 978.242/M643e.) Much of Perkin’s literary output appeared in Studio News Magazine.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consists of two manuscript items written by Boyd Perkin. This material relates to the history of Frontier County, Nebraska, including its organization, settlement, noteworthy events, and Indian/white relations during the pioneer period.
Item 1 is entitled, “The Poet and the Muse.” Much of this history is taken from Miles’s and Bratt’s Frontier County History. Perkin wrote introductions to the fourteen chapters comprising this work. All of these introductions include Perkin’s poetry. Item 2, “The White Wolf: A Tale of the Medicine and Mitchell’s Fork,” is an original radio script written by Perkin. The story presented in the script pertains to the first murder trial held in Frontier County.
