SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The collection consists of three boxes of papers relating to Frank E. Landis’ service as a delegate to the Republican Party National Convention in 1960 and to his service on the Nebraska State Board of Education. Box 1 consists of Landis’ personal file of letters and miscellaneous materials from the 1960 Republican National Convention in Chicago, Illinois, at which Landis was a delegate. These materials relate mainly to letters and pamphlets sent to the delegates intended to sway them to support or oppose one or another candidate for G.O.P. nomination to office. Also included is a folder of convention information, containing rosters, agendas, and a seating chart for delegates. Folder 12 contains several envelopes of what Landis noted as “crackpot” material, including pamphlets and newsletters from super patriotic anti-Communistic groups and racist groups.
Boxes 2 and 3 contain files relating to Frank E. Landis’ service on the Nebraska State Board of Education from the 1950s to the 1970s. Materials include correspondence, reports, clippings, etc. covering various subjects including school district consolidations, sex education, busing, funding for private schools and education of children with special needs. Also included are materials relating to Landis’ work with the Cornhusker Education Corporation, Inc.
The collection is unprocessed, but an inventory is available.
Note: For records relating to Frank Landis’ time with the American Legion, see RG2959.AM.
