BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Harry B. Robinson was born in Mercer County, Missouri on March 13, 1903. After graduating from Princeton (Missouri) High School, he attended the University of Missouri, Columbia, receiving degrees in history, geography/geology, and education. From 1933 to 1939, Robinson served as a college instructor at various Missouri schools. The bulk of his career, 1940-1969, was spent as a Naturalist/Historian with the National Park Service stationed in California, Nebraska, Utah, Colorado, and Montana.
Retiring in 1969, Robinson pursued his interest in history by searching for and appraising books for the University of Missouri Libraries. He died in 2001 and is buried next to his wife, Mildred, in the Memorial Park Cemetery at Columbia, Missouri.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consists of one series of manuscript material designated as one series: 1) National Park Service Papers, 1951-1961. This series consists of papers kept by Harry B. Robinson during his tenure at the Midwest Regional Office, Omaha, of the National Park Service. Included is a notebook kept by Robinson in which he described his inspection of the George W. Norris home in McCook, Nebraska, 1961; Robinson’s historical note for a report on the Niobrara River Basin; and correspondence, 1951-1952, between Robinson and Harry B. Harlan regarding Harlan’s reminiscence, “I Remember Nebraska.” (Harlan’s series of articles was published in The Nebraska Farmer during 1954-1955.)
