DESCRIPTION
This collection consists of one letter dated January 6, 1909 from J.M. Edmisten to Iowa Congressman Walter I. Smith. In the letter, Edmisten describes his “persecution…from the hands of the [Justice] department at Washington.” Edmisten was sentenced in the Federal Court of Omaha to four months in jail for supposed land fraud. Edmisten alleges the coercion of witness by secret service agents and concludes it is because of his opposition to the political leanings of President Roosevelt.
