BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Born in Newcastle West, Ireland, in 1819, John H. Maun came to Brownville, Nebraska Territory, in April 1857. He served with Company E, 2nd Nebraska Cavalry during the Civil War. He married Ellen O’Callaghen, and the couple had eleven children (two died in infancy). Maun died at his home in Jackson, Dakota County, Nebraska, on April 28, 1887.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The collection consists of one folder containing correspondence of John H. Maun to his wife, Ellen, 1862-1886. Letters from 1862 were written while Maun served with Co. E, 2nd Nebraska Cavalry. Also included are a history of the Maun Family and a history of Brownville, Nebraska’s early days transcribed from an early diary of John H. Maun.
