BACKGROUND NOTE
Joshua Martin Snyder was born in Virginia in 1825. He moved to Illinois when he was a young man. He was ordained in the Methodist Church at twenty-two years of age. He married Harriet Frazier on April 3, 1848, in Mercer County, Illinois. The Snyders moved to Sherman County, Nebraska, in 1878. Joshua spent the rest of his life serving as a Methodist minister in Sherman County. Harriet died in 1900. Rev. Joshua Martin Snyder died on May 20, 1904. Both are buried in Verdurette Cemetery in Sherman County, Nebraska.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consist of one folder containing a photocopy of a handwritten manuscript entitled, “Genealogy, Life, Labor and Writings of Joshua Martin Snyder.” Snyder apparently started writing the manuscript in 1851 while living in Illinois. He continued adding to it throughout his life. The manuscript contains background information about his family, his work, and other philosophical and religious writings. Also included are photocopies of some of his writings that were published in newspapers and church conference publications.
