BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Born in Calloway, Nebraska on December 11, 1889, Joy Elmer Morgan attended Nebraska Wesleyan University before transferring to the University of Nebraska where he received his bachelor’s degree in 1917. Morgan also received a B.L.S degree from New York State Library School in 1920 and a Sc.D. degree from Boston University in 1941. From 1911 to 1913 he served as school superintendent in Bloomington, Nebraska. He went on to serve as school superintendent in Guide Rock, Nebraska from 1913 to 1917.

In 1920 Morgan became the editor for the Journal of the National Education Association. In 1937 he founded the organization, Future Teachers of America. In 1954 Morgan stepped down as editor of the NEA Journal when he founded and became president of the Senior Citizens of America.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of published articles by or about Joy Elmer Morgan and his career as an educator and editor for the Journal of the National Education Association. The collection also includes a few items relating to the Future Teachers of America and the Senior Citizens of America.
