BACKGROUND NOTE
The Nebraska Association was formed on April 22, 1857, on board a steamboat anchored in the Missouri River near Doniphan, Kansas Territory. The original members were all settlers bound for Southeast Nebraska who agreed to band together for mutual aid and protection. A committee of their members investigated possible sites and selected Gage County. The name, Beatrice, was chosen on May 5, 1857.

This collection consists of 1 volume of minutes relating to the locating, naming and organization of the city of Beatrice, Nebraska.
