BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE



Nellie W. Cole, daughter of Gilbert and Fredricka Cole, was born at Riverton, Iowa, in 1874. She died in Beatrice, Nebraska, in December of 1955 and is buried in Evergreen Home Cemetery at Beatrice, Nebraska.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection contains the diaries of Nellie W. Cole, dating from 1946-1949, 1952-1953, as well as several notebooks containing household accounts and miscellaneous ephemera. Also included are the minutes and secretary’s reports, 1932-1944, of the Altar Guild of Christ Episcopal Church, Beatrice, Nebraska. Nellie W. Cole’s sister, Callie B. Cole, compiled the Altar Guild data while secretary of that organization.

It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
