BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Ray Page was born in Friend, Nebraska, on August 16, 1882. After high school he joined the advertising department of The Nebraska Farmer, remaining there for seven years. For the next six years he worked as a livestock auctioneer and in 1913 became an automobile salesman. In 1915 he moved to Lincoln where he was district manager for the Nebraska Buick Auto Company.

The Nebraska Aircraft Company was organized in 1919 by four Lincoln men. Mr. Page took over the concern on August 6, 1920, and renamed it the Lincoln Standard Aircraft Company. The factory, where Lincoln Page airplanes were manufactured, was located at 2409 “O” Street. The flying school which the company operated shared these quarters. Charles A. Lindbergh was its most famous pupil. Poor health forced Page’s retirement in 1930 and the sale of the company to Victor H. Roos.

In addition to his interest in aviation, Page was devoted to greyhound racing and raised his own dogs. At one time he was identified with a wrestling promotion agency. Ray Page died on March 17, 1933.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection [formerly MS2801] consists of a scrapbook containing clippings, photographs, and advertising materials related to aviation in the United States in the 1920s, the career of Charles Lindbergh, and airplanes manufactured by the Lincoln Standard Aircraft Company. For preservation concerns, patrons are asked to use the microfilm copy of the scrapbook. Also included in the collection is a first day cover of the “50th Anniversary of Lindbergh’s Flight” from May 20, 1977.

About NSHS

The Nebraska State Historical Society was founded in 1878 by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed NSHS from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director Cindy Drake. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for NSHS.
