BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Robert Harvey, born January 4, 1844, at Savannah, Ohio, served in the 74th Indiana Infantry during the Civil War. He moved to Nebraska, and in 1871 was influential in pioneering Howard County, Nebraska, and for about twenty-eight years was a deputy U.S. Surveyor. He was also an official of the Nebraska State Historical Society in charge of historical sites. He died on November 1, 1923, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The Harvey collection includes material arranged in three series: 1) Correspondence, 1896-1923; 2) Manuscripts; and 3) Receipts.
The bulk of the Robert Harvey collection consists of correspondence from the early 1900s dealing primarily with the location of the Oregon Trail (and others), battle monuments, and other historical sites.
