SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The collection consists of two typed transcriptions of letters from Robert Hawke, Nebraska City, Nebraska, to John K. Gilman, Deadwood, Dakota Territory. The letters are dated August 29thand October 2nd, 1877. In the letters Hawke inquires about the status of purchased Black Hills mining claims. Hawke is also interested in buying more claims, particularly for quartzite mines. Also mentioned in the letters are names of various mines and mining companies.
