BACKGROUND NOTE

The Rose Hill Cemetery Association was established on January 17, 1880.  Local interested citizens met at the schoolhouse in School District No. 5 in Gage County and formed themselves into a cemetery association.  Original officers of the association included Albert Vandusen (President and Trustee), John Savage (Treasurer and Trustee), Henry Richardson (Clerk) and J.W. Wehn (Trustee).  The cemetery is located approximately three miles east of DeWitt, Nebraska, at the corner of W. Chestnut Rd. and S.W. 100th Rd.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The collection consists of one folder containing photocopies from a record book of the Rose Hill Cemetery Association.  The records date from 1880 to 1914 and include articles of association and bylaws, minutes of meetings, lists of lot sales and plats of the cemetery.

About NSHS

The Nebraska State Historical Society was founded in 1878 by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed NSHS from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director Cindy Drake. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for NSHS.
