SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



The Salem Lutheran Church collection consists of a one volume Church register which dates from 1882 to 1956. It contains the names of church members, when and where they were born, baptized and confirmed, marriage records, the date they arrived in America and where from, the date they arrived in the community and where from, and the date they removed from the community. Death notations are listed under the title “Remarks.”



These records contain information concerning the church members of this Dixon County community. The church register was loaned for microfilming on October 29, 1957, by the Rev. C. Willard Carlson as a part of the Norden Club project in Scandinavian history.

About NSHS

The Nebraska State Historical Society was founded in 1878 by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed NSHS from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director Cindy Drake. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for NSHS.
