BACKGROUND NOTE
Born at Plattsmouth, Nebraska, in 1890, Samuel C. Waugh graduated from Lincoln High School in 1907 and went on to attend the University of Nebraska Law College. Waugh made his career in international banking and other business ventures. He served as director of the Citizens State Bank for nearly 20 years, as well as director of the Dempster Manufacturing Company of Beatrice and as president of the Cooper Foundation. He also served as president of the First Trust Company of Lincoln and he served in various capacities with the Nebraska Mortgage Bankers Association, the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, and the American Bankers Association trust division. Waugh’s varied career included appointments as Assistant Secretary of State for Economic Affairs and various ambassadorships.
Samuel C. Waugh died in Washington D.C. on July 30, 1970. He is buried in Wyuka Cemetery at Lincoln, Nebraska.

The collection consists of one folder containing certificates, clippings, biographical information and other ephemera relating to the international banking and government service careers of Samuel C. Waugh. Information in the collection dates from the 1930s to 1970.
