BACKGROUND NOTE

Tyre Kinser Jones was born in Iowa on August 11, 1873.  The 1900 census shows Jones was married to Sarah (Harris) Jones and working as a teacher in Lancaster County, Nebraska.  By 1910 the Jones family had moved to Ainsworth, Nebraska, and Tyre was listed as a doctor.  They had two sons, Tyre Kenneth, born in 1900, and Aubrey H., born in 1904.  During World War I Jones served with the 53^rd Pioneer Infantry in France as their regimental surgeon.  Following the war, he returned to Ainsworth and continued practicing medicine.  By 1930 Tyre and Sarah had moved back to Lancaster County and he was working as a physician at the Lincoln State Hospital for the Insane.  The 1940 census still lists Jones as working for the Lincoln State Hospital for the Insane.  Sometime after 1940 Tyre and Sarah moved to Michigan.  Tyre Kinser Jones died in Michigan in February of 1964.  He is buried in North Athens Cemetery, Athens, Michigan, next to his wife.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of one box of papers mostly relating to Tyre K. Jones’ service during World War I.  Included are military orders, commendations, certificates of supply transfers, service manuals, etc.  Also included are manuals on foot ailments and venereal disease, property tax receipts, and miscellaneous other items.  The materials in the collection date from 1914 to 1929.
