BACKGROUND NOTE
Born in Canada around 1812, William Bradt came to the United States and worked in the grain trade around Buffalo, New York. He married Rosanna Hansell in 1836, and the couple would have six children. By 1860, the Bradt family was farming in Illinois. The Bradts came to Gage County, Nebraska, in 1869. William Bradt continued to farm, as well as operate a lumberyard in Beatrice. William Bradt died on April 3, 1875, and is buried in the Beatrice Cemetery.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consists of three small diaries kept by William Bradt. Entries in the diaries date between 1857 and 1873. The diaries record Bradt’s day-to-day activities, notes about the weather and religious services, as well as information about his lumberyard in Beatrice.
