BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
William H. Cowgill was born at Salem, Iowa, in 1859. The family came to Nebraska in 1870 and settled at David City. He married Jessie Dibble at Western, Nebraska, on September 12, 1884. Cowgill was active in various business and civic activities, having served as postmaster at Tobias, Nebraska, and then in 1890, going into the real estate, loan and commission business in Holdrege, Nebraska. He was a Mason and a Shriner and was elected to the Nebraska State Railway Commission in 1908. William H. Cowgill died in Lincoln, Nebraska, on October 16, 1910. SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The collection contains one item, the diary of William H. Cowgill. Diary entries date between January 1 and April 5, 1910. The entries are short and record observations of daily life, including the weather, his health, visitors received, etc. Obituaries for Angie F. (Thurston) Newman are pasted into the diary. Newman was an author and lecturer and was the sister of Nebraska Senator John M. Thurston.
