Virtual Field Trips
We’re excited to offer award-winning, student-driven learning, combining curiosity and primary sources. We look forward to providing experiences with compelling questions and artifacts through Virtual Field Trips.
See below to learn more about each of the programs and to register. Please review our field trip policies before scheduling your visit. Questions? Email us at HN.MuseumEducation@nebraska.gov, and one of our educators will be happy to assist.
Our virtual programs recently received the Pinnacle Award from the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration. This award recognizes content providers for delivering programs with high educational value that actively involve learners at their level and are professionally delivered via videoconferencing technologies.
Registration for the 2026-27 school year is currently closed. Please check back this fall or fill out the form below to be notified when registration opens.
FAQ
How much do NSHS virtual field trips cost?
Virtual field trip programs are provided free of charge for registered groups that meet our minimum group size. This includes school groups, including public, private, charter schools, homeschool groups, and community organizations.
How do I reserve a virtual field trip?
Field trip programs and tours can be requested on our website at least one week in advance. Programs are booked on a first-come, first-served basis.
What is the minimum group size?
Due to the nature of the activities in our virtual field trip programs, all groups must have a minimum of ten learners.
Can homeschool students register for NSHS virtual field trips?
The Nebraska State Historical Society welcomes homeschool students and their families. Although many of our museum and virtual field trips are not designed to meet the unique needs of homeschool students, we strongly encourage homeschool families to attend our monthly “Homeschool Days” events or special virtual programs.
Do I need any special equipment or programs for a virtual field trip?
A NSHS educator will connect with you via Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams. You will need a device with a video camera and microphone (built-in to most devices) and a reliable internet connection. NSHS educators will be asking questions throughout the presentation, so please have your audio and video ready.
What if I need to cancel a field trip?
If you can no longer visit the museum, please contact us as soon as possible by the Nebraska State Historical Society Education staff at hn.museumeducation@nebraska.gov. Our educators can work with you to reschedule. If you need to cancel the day of your workshop, please call the NSHS Education team at 402-471-1674.
What if inclement weather changes our schedule?
If your workshop is canceled due to inclement weather, our educators will work with you to reschedule.
