The Clarkson Historical Society (CHS) collects, preserves, and displays historical artifacts used in the growth and development of Clarkson. CHS interprets events affecting the present and future and exists to be of service to the community. Today, the organization operates the Clarkson Historical Museum.
CHS was founded in 1967 when Charles and Anna Novotny bequeathed their building to CHS so they could establish a museum on behalf of Anna Novotny’s parents, who were pioneers in the area. The building itself shows how the town’s needs changed over time. It housed a furniture business, then a mortuary, and sold electrical appliances and music. Each room has a story to tell.

The Clarkson Historical Museum has 24 rooms, 12 of which are upstairs, displaying historical artifacts. Nearly 15,000 of these represent local Czech heritage. The military room holds another notable collection, including displays of more than 70 Clarkson residents who served in the military from WWI to the present. There are pictures of each service member along with their service history.
The museum has stood for nearly 60 years thanks to the help of many dedicated volunteers, members, and the generous donations from the people of Clarkson. With no permanent staff, a group of eight board members runs and maintains the museum.

CHS is currently looking to upgrade displays throughout the museum. They are especially looking for displays that will help preserve and exhibit the high school senior class pictures.
