SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The collection consists of a letter dated August 27, 1903, written by Dennis Farrell from New York City to J. Amos Barrett at the Nebraska State Historical Society in Lincoln, Nebraska. In the letter Farrell recounts traveling on a train from Julesburg, Colorado, to Omaha, Nebraska, and seeing William Thompson, a railroad worker who had been scalped during the Plum Creek Massacre in August of 1867. Farrell also describes a time with a wagon train when they encountered hostile Indians. The letter gives brief impressions of Julesburg, Colorado, and Farrell’s life as a rancher.
