BACKGROUND NOTE
Henry Clay Rogers was born in Carlton township, Barry County, Michigan, on January 11, 1845. His parents were Jared Sanford Rogers and Louisa (Miller) Rogers. He lived and farmed in Barry County, Michigan most of his adult life. He traveled to Nebraska in 1863 and 1865 to visit family. Henry Clay Rogers died on March 17, 1928, at Decatur, Michigan. He is buried next to his wife, Eliza (Sisson) Rogers, at Riverside Cemetery, Decatur, Michigan.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consists of one folder containing a photocopy of a diary and account book kept by Henry Clay Rogers. The diary entries describe a buffalo hunt near Ft. Kearny, Nebraska in 1863 accompanied by his brother-in-law, Walter B. Newton, of Tekemah, Nebraska. Additional entries from 1865 briefly describe a second trip to Nebraska. The portion from Rogers’ account book records money spent and taken in, 1858-ca1880. The account book contains a slightly fuller account of the 1863 buffalo hunt.
