BACKGROUND NOTE
Kenneth D. Wald received his graduate degrees from Washington University in St. Louis and also studied at the London School of Economics. His BA in political science was awarded by the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. He has held visiting appointments at Harvard University, the University of Michigan, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Haifa University, the University of Toronto, Linnaeus University (Sweden), and the University of Strathclyde (Scotland). In 2018, Wald was the Hallsworth Visiting Professor at the University of Manchester (England) where he taught master classes on religion and politics. In 2011, he was named the Teacher-Scholar of the Year, the highest faculty award given by the University of Florida.
Wald conducts research about the role of religion in American public life. His recent books include Religion and Politics in the United States (published in its eighth edition) and Foundations of American Jewish Liberalism, published by Cambridge University Press and winner of the 2019 National Jewish book award in American Jewish studies. He co-founded and continues to edit the book series, “Cambridge Studies in Social Theory, Religion and Politics.” Kenneth D. Wald is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Political Science and the Samuel R. Shorstein Professor Emeritus of American Jewish Culture and Society at the University of Florida (as of 2020).
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The collection consists of one folder containing notes and research data used in the book, Shall the People Rule? A History of the Democratic Party in Nebraska Politics, 1854-1972, by Kenneth Wald and James Pedersen. Included are articles, correspondence, research notes, clippings, etc. The bulk of the materials appears to date from ca. 1969-1971.
