BACKGROUND NOTE



The Nebraska Museums Association was chartered in 1990 when it branched off from the Nebraska Futures Project. Some of the goals of the association are to promote professional standards in Nebraska museums, and to serve as an information source for local, state and federal government and other decision making authorities on issues relating to Nebraska Museums. SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



The collection consists of the records of the Nebraska Museums Association, a society of Nebraska museum professionals. The collection includes correspondence, minutes of meetings, meeting agendas, membership information, legislative bills, budget information, grant requests, The Phoenix newsletter and questionnaires. The materials in the collection date from 1975-2019.

About History Nebraska
History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Interim Director and CEO Jill Dolberg. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for History Nebraska.
