BACKGROUND NOTE
The Nebraska Society of Ethnology and Folklore was organized in Lincoln, Nebraska, in November 1910. Officers were: Hutton Webster, Lincoln, President; R.F. Gilder, Omaha, Vice-President; A.E. Sheldon, Lincoln, Secretary-Treasurer. Meetings appear to have been held annually. The activities of the organization were to include the investigation of Indian culture within the borders of the state, as well as documenting European folklore found in the state’s German, Bohemian and Scandinavian populations.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consists of one box containing records of the Nebraska Society of Ethnology and Folklore. Included are a secretary’s book with copies of the organizational constitution, by-laws, etc., and a secretary/treasurer’s report. The records date from ca. 1910 to 1912.
