BACKGROUND NOTE
Richard H. “Dick” Meyer, son of Fred and Beth Meyer was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on April 4, 1926. A 1943 graduate of Lincoln Northeast High School, Meyer served in the South Pacific during World War II. He was involved in the invasions of Peleilu, Saipan, Tinian, Guam, the Philippines, and Okinawa. After the war, Meyer attended Nebraska Wesleyan University, graduating in 1950. Following Korean War service, Meyer had a career in insurance. In 2000, he was one of a crew of twenty-eight that brought back LST325 World War II Memorial Ship from Greece. He died in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, on April 29, 2009.
