SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection contains correspondence and manuscripts written by William Lewis, particularly regarding Native American legends and stories. Included are stories about Blackbird Hill, Mission Point, and steamboat navigation on the Missouri River. The materials dating from the 1990s consist of Carolyn Van Zandt’s research into steamboat navigation and other areas relating to Lewis’ writings. Van Zandt was interested in having the Lewis manuscripts published.
