Corn has long been synonymous with Nebraska’s agricultural identity, but a new event aims to shed light on the people who first cultivated it. Sponsored by the Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation, Ronnie O’Brien, in collaboration with the Pawnee Seed Preservation Society (PSPS), will showcase and discuss this year’s Pawnee corn crop grown in Nebraska. The event takes place at 3 p.m. MST on Saturday, Oct.12, at the Chimney Rock Ethel and Christopher J. Abbott Visitor Center classroom. O’Brien, one of the first volunteer farmers, spearheaded the project while serving as Assistant General Manager at the Archway Monument in Kearney.
The hour-long program will delve into the cultural and spiritual significance of corn to the Pawnee people, both historically and in the present day. Please register by filling out the form below.
