On Monday, February 10th, at 10:30 AM (CST), the Nebraska State Historical Society and the Great Plains Black History Museum present a free virtual education program commemorating Black History Month!
Designed for 4th grade students and homeschool families, we’ll explore the contributions and experiences of Black Nebraskans throughout history, featuring a panel of expert speakers.
Join us as we examine fascinating artifacts from the NSHS Collection, introduce archeological digs relating to Black History, and share inspiring stories.
Speakers include:
- Eric Ewing, Executive Director of the Great Plains Black History Museum, will share the creation of Black History Month and its importance today.
- John Bell, a reenactor from Buffalo Soldiers of the American West, will present Buffalo Soldier uniforms and military gear.
- Jordan Miller, NSHS 3-D Objects Curator, to showcase historical artifacts from the NSHS collection.
- State Archeologist Dave Williams to discuss archaeological discoveries that provide insight into the history of Black communities in Nebraska.
- Sandy Wounded Arrow, Fort Robinson Historic Site Manager to share the compelling story and legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers stationed at Fort Robinson.
