Nebraska Green Book Sites

Nebraska Green Book Locations

This map displays a selection of known Nebraska locations listed in The Negro Motorist Green Book. While this is not a comprehensive list, it includes sites for which we currently have address information. Many additional locations are still being researched, and some historic addresses remain unclear or unconfirmed.

We are still early in this project, so this map is a work in progress. It will continue to evolve as we uncover more information and verify historic details.

Use this map to explore which Green Book sites once existed—or still exist—in Nebraska communities. Each pin includes the historic name, city, and current condition (Extant, Destroyed, or Unknown).

For a complete list of all known Nebraska sites from 1936 to 1966, grouped by city and if known, reasonably identified addresses, click the link below to download a viewable PDF.

If you have information or stories about these or other Green Book sites, please reach out to Jade Mendoza or call 402-429-7465—your knowledge can help build a more complete history.

About NSHS

The Nebraska State Historical Society was founded in 1878 by citizens who recognized Nebraska was going through great changes and they sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed NSHS from a state institution to a state agency. The division is headed by Director Daryl Bohac. They are assisted by an administrative staff responsible for financial and personnel functions, museum store services, security, and facilities maintenance for NSHS.
