After going dark to the public on March 17th due to the coronavirus pandemic, History Nebraska announces that all sites, museums, and facilities that closed due to the pandemic will reopen Tuesday, July 7th. Every site will follow stringent cleaning procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our employees and guests.
After going dark to the public on March 17th due to the coronavirus pandemic, History Nebraska announces that all sites, museums, and facilities that closed due to the pandemic will reopen Tuesday, July 7th. Every site will follow stringent cleaning procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our employees and guests.
Historic sites and museums that will reopen include the Nebraska History Museum in Lincoln, Kennard House in Lincoln, Neligh Mill Historic Site in Neligh, George Norris House in McCook, John G. Neihardt State Historic Site in Bancroft, and Fort Robinson History Center at Fort Robinson State Park. The hours of each site will vary and can be found their respective pages. The Chimney Rock Museum will remain closed due to ongoing construction and exhibit installation.
The History Nebraska Reference Room and Library Archives will be open to the public Fridays 9 am – 4 pm. More information on how to access History Nebraska’s research resources can be found here.
The safety and wellbeing of our staff and guests is a top priority. Therefore, History Nebraska has implemented new cleaning procedures in accordance with CDC guidelines. All History Nebraska staff will be required to wear masks if engaged with the public or other employees, and masks will be highly encouraged for visitors and guests. Exhibits with interactive elements have been adapted to meet cleaning guidelines. Visitors will be asked to follow proper social distancing guidelines, to use hand sanitizer at provided locations, and to wash hands for at least 20 seconds.
